Generative ai for academic success

Workshop description:

Our short, high impact workshops teach students important information and skills that enable them to use generative AI tools responsibly and effectively to help them study for their assessments.

Our workshops cover:

  • What generative AI tools are and how they work.

  • The risks associated with using generative AI tools and how to minimise these risks.

  • Strategies for identifying and mitigating the risk of receiving inaccurate output.

  • A range of evidence-based tips for effective prompt-writing, with specific-use cases and prompts to showcase their application to VCE.

  • The importance of using generative AI tools cautiously, critically and as a tool to aid active learning.

Pre-workshop:

We recognise that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to teaching students about generative AI. Every school has its own ideas, needs and aims concerning generative AI education and integration.

This is why we gather information that enables us to personalise our workshops to your school, including:

  • Whether students are permitted to use generative AI in class or only at home.

  • Whether your school has purchased student licenses for any specific generative AI tools (e.g. Gemini for Education, Microsoft 365 Copilot).

  • Any existing school policies relating to generative AI and academic integrity.

  • Topics you want extra attention allocated towards. For example, a school that has had a high volume of academic integrity violations may request special emphasis on this topic.

Post-workshop:

Students receive access to our student portal, containing:

  • Key information from the workshop, expanded on in greater depth for students with a particular interest in the subject matter.

  • Ready-to-use prompt templates, adaptable across a range of subjects.

  • Practical examples and suggestions for different ways to use AI tools to support learning.

  • Regular updates on how to use the latest features of different generative AI tools.

  • Recommended best practices to protect private data.
